Dr. Lohia was a socialist leader of a fearless and dynamic personality. Both before independence and in free India he went to prison several times for the sake of the people. A man of rare scholarship and independent thought, he toiled to create a society which would ensure justice to the poor, the backward and women. Lohia was born in 1910. His father, Heeralal, was a merchant at Faizabad, in Uttar Pradesh. At the birth place of Lord Shri Rama and work place of intense socialists Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, a residential cum affiliating university named Avadh University was established in 1975. Later on, in 1994 the name of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia was added with the name of Avadh University and thus the present name of University emerged as Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University. The Scheme of epoch making social thinkers in India is envisaged by the 10th & 11th plan of UGC. It was also emphasized in XII Plan uidelines of UGC. In this light Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Ayodhya, is going to set up this Centre to be known as "Dr. Rammanohar Lohia Centre for Economic Policy and evelopment Studies". The aim of center is to understand Dr. Lohia,s ideas through economic philosophy and emancipator movements as well as to study the relevance of inclusive development. To undertake research in areas relating to freeing the oppressed people through various ways, policies and programmes , abolition of unsociability practice , discrimination , distribution of surplus land and enactment of legislations etc, and the movement as well as their impact on economically backward people. To undertake research to know the impact of constitution of India on the life of people, especially in the areas of economic democracy and Social justice.
