The department look forward to provide best employment opportunities to the trained postgraduates in Mining and Oil exploration industries and other Government institutions and join national and international leading research laboratories, PSUs like: ONGC, Oil India, IOCL, Coal India, MECL.
The Department offers B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Geology and is strongly committed to excellence in generating new knowledge about the Earth. The primary goal to prepares students to be employable and capable of serving the nation effectively. The department's major focus areas include Water Resources, Geohazards, River Science, Remote Sensing & GIS, Igneous Petrology, Sedimentology, Geochemistry, Geochronology, Palaeontology, Stratigraphy, Geomorphology, and Quaternary Geology. Geological Survey of India (GSI), Coal India, CGWB, Mineral Exploration Ltd., ONGC, Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), Hindustan Zinc Ltd, ISRO, MMTC, BPCL, Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM), Schlumberger Limited, and many more National and International companies are top recuiters.
The M.A./M.Sc. Program in Geography was initiated in the year 2021, covers contemporary and emerging fields of Geography having wide ranging interests to meet the growing needs of the research organisations and academic institutions.
The department is well equipped with instruments and equipments for the monitoring of air, water, soil pollution, microbiological works, siesmological studies, mineralological and petrological studies, remote sensing, GIS, and cartographic studies including air quality monitoring station, weatrher monitoring statiion and redon geo station (siesmic activities). Department is privileged for regular updating of air quality data of state pollution control board, UP of Ayodhya region and for this Department has a designated Saryu Lab for water and air monitoring. Beside this department has also got an opportunity to work as Consultant in Amrit Sarovar Scheme of Government of India.
More than 300 research papers have been published in different International and National journals by the faculty members and research scholars. Department has been funded by different national and state level funding agencies such as DST, UGC, MoEF&CC, UPCST, AICTE, NCAOR, UPCAR, UPPCB and CSIR. Currently, UPPCB and UPHED have funded three projects to the department.
The department regularly organizes seminars/ conferences/ workshops on important issues of the environment. The departments had organized a National Conference entitled “Current issues of environment health, climate change and its management (NCECM-2018)” in collaboration with the Academy of the Environment Biology (AEB) in October 2018, 27th International Conference of International Academy of Physical Sciences (CONIAPS-XXVII) entitled “Recent Advances in Earth Sciences”, on 26-28 October 2021 and hosted an International Conference on Environment and Society (ICES-2023) entitled “New Vistas in Waste Management and Sustainable Development” on 29, December 2023. The Indian Geophysical Union (IGU) Student Chapter was inaugurated in our prestigious department on April 30, 2024, with the esteemed presence of Padma Shree Prof. V.P. Dimri. On the same day, the “IGU Anni Talwani Lecture” was delivered by Prof. Uma Shankar. Beside this department on regular basis organizes Environmental events such as Earth Day, World Ozone Day, World Environment Day, World Water Day and tree plantation etc. to generate awareness among the masses. Invited lectures by eminent personalities/environmental scientists / researchers / industrialists are held in the department to generate interest among the students and also to provide them opportunities for direct dialogue with such personalities. Summer and industrial training are also imparted to the students in reputed Labs, Research Institutes, Industries to understand the advancement and real working in the field of environment.
Department organizes campus selection for different organizations/consultancies/NGOs such as Fare Labs Pvt. Ltd. Gurugram, Ganga Envirotech Research Laboratory, Lucknow, and Maruti India Limited, Gurugram, RSPL limited, Gurugram and J.M. envirolab Pvt. Ltd., Gurugram etc. Students passing out from the department are serving in various reputed National/ International research institutions and other governmental organizations such as Washington State University, USA, CIMAP, CDRI, IITR, NBRI, FRI, IARI, TERI, NGOs, State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), Satluj Jal Vidhut Nigam (SJVN), State & Central Pollution Control Boards and in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, New Delhi. A good number of students from the department have qualified JRF/NET/GATE examinations and have been placed in administrative services and as teaching faculty in colleges, Central and State Universities in India and abroad.
