The department of Adult & Continuing Education was established in 1984 by U.G.C. under the new approach of education “Extension as third dimension of Higher Education”. In 1988, the department was formally established under Faculty of Arts in the First Statute of the University.
To meet the emerging trends of professional and vocational education, the department aims at the sustainable development and addresses several areas of concern through regular courses such as M.A. in Adult and Continuing Education.
Under extension program, the department has contributed significantly in creating awareness about various socio-economic upliftment programs aimed at rural-poor for which the department has earned laurels and accolades from various government and non-government agencies. It was to be a two-way process between the experts and the people, an intellectual intervention in the communities’ living problems which need to be overcome through an educational process. It was aimed at importing education which helped students to face life and its challenges along with creating an ambience for learning society. Keeping these aims in mind the Department of Adult and Continuing Education has organised several activities in the community as well as the university. The department has also organized the training programs, seminars, workshops and orientation programs on different topics i.e., Literacy, Population Education, Environmental Education, Legal Literacy, National Integration, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Health & Immunisation Camp and Women’s Empowerment.
