A Centre of Excellence Department By U.P. Government
Since inception in the year 1984, the department has constantly and
significantly contributed towards teaching and research as a result of this
concerted effort, the State Government has accorded the status of ‘Center for
Excellence’ to the department in 2010 with a grant of Rs. 1.53 crores.
The department presently offers M.Sc. Physics and M.Sc. Electronics courses with
intake of 30 and 20 students respectively. Recognizing its research potential,
UGC has identified and financially supported the department as nodal center for
providing computer facilities to the university departments. Department has
organized seminars (1989, 1999 and 2003) and workshop (1994) of National level.
More than a dozen research projects have been sanctioned to the teachers of the
department by various funding agencies. Latest among them is a DST sponsored
major research project of Rs. 14 lakhs and UPCST sponsored project of Rs. 6
lakhs has been sanctioned to Dr. S.R. Vishwakarma. Around 46 Ph.D.s have been
produced by the department till date. More than 230 research papers in reputed
International and National journals have been published by the teachers and
research scholars of the department. Students of this department are absorbed in
multinational and national organizations and institutions of repute in India and
abroad like IBM, TechMahindra, Tata Infotech., HCL etc. About 22 students have
qualified NET, JRF and JEST examinations.
The department is well equipped with internet and LAN facilities. Electronics,
communication and Computer Laboratories are enriched with latest equipment’s and
research facilities. Availability of hi-tech seminar room and teaching through
modern aids like LCD projectors and Computer aided programs are the regular
features of the department. The department is going to establish VLSI and
Material Science laboratories for specialized teaching and research in the year
2010.
