Department of Adult, Continuing and Extension Education

The department of Adult Continuing and Extension Education was established in 1984 by U.G.C. under the new approach of education “Extension as third dimension of Higher Education”. In 1988, the department was formally established under Faculty of Arts in First Statute of the varsity.
To meet the emerging trends of professional and vocational education, the department aims to sustainable development with focus on the changing scenario of the country and address several areas of concern through regular courses as- M.A. in Extension Education & Rural Development, Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) and P.G. Diploma in Fashion Designing under self-finance scheme.
Under extension program, the department has contributed significantly in creating awareness about various socio-economic upliftment programs aimed at rural poor of the government for which the department has earned laurels and accolades from various government and non-government agencies. Students of Extension Education and Rural Development have qualified in JRF and NET competitions of UGC. A good number of these students have been placed in different health, field and rural development projects. The department has organized seminars and workshops on various topics both within and outside the University campus. The MCJ program, in a very short span of time has got its students placed in established media houses.
Prof. P. P. Singh, Director of the department has received Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel National Award 2000 for literacy development and peace by commonwealth association for education and training centre of Adult International Association.
